NEW YORK – Fifty years ago a wave of pioneering prints in the form of pink monkeys dancing, green elephants swimming in pools and flowers blooming in a rainbow of colors hit the American fashion scene.
And to think, it all started with a juice stand in Palm Beach when young Lilly needed a hobby! In November 2008, Lilly Pulitzer, the classically fun, authentically playful and historically rule-breaking brand will kick off a year-long Jubilee that will celebrate the past 50 years and more important the brand’s future as a classic American lifestyle brand.
“Who would have thought that a crazy-printed Classic Shift dress sold out of a juice stand could launch a 50-year-old business?! We are so proud, as an American fashion company, to reach that 50-year mark and we are thrilled to launch what promises to be one of the most entertaining celebrations in American fashion history,” said James Bradbeer, Jr. president of Lilly Pulitzer. “We’re honored to celebrate with our loyal Lilly Lovers who have been with the brand since the beginning and we’re excited to look towards the next 50 years,” said Bradbeer.
The Jubilee celebration will kick off in New York City on November 5, 2008 with a Lilly Pulitzer Jubilee Retrospective Exhibit at Parsons the New School of Design in the Sheila Johnson Design Center. The spirit of Lilly Pulitzer’s past 50 years will be captured in an honorary tribute through a historical fashion and lifestyle Jubilee Retrospective Exhibit. At the event, a donation will be made to the Parsons IDC Project with CARE International. The retrospective exhibit will then continue to travel nationwide over the next nine months from Palm Beach to Los Angeles.
To continue the Jubilee celebration, and to honor the heritage of this multi-generational brand, a handful of fellow iconic American companies will pay tribute to Lilly Pulitzer’s 50 years of colorful fun. Favorite family brands and products such as Steinway & Sons pianos, Jeep Wrangler and Hasbro’s Monopoly toast the golden anniversary by creating limited-edition, exclusive products including: a Lilly-printed model M Steinway & Sons piano which will travel the country providing colorful music at various events, an exclusive Lilly-printed Jeep Wrangler with a signature floral print that will really put the “petal to the metal” and Monopoly, a Lilly Pulitzer® edition complete with pink boutiques and juice stands which take the place of houses and hotels.
In addition, the brand will be honoring 50 years of colorful life with limited-edition Jubilee product capsule collections offered in the Resort 2008, Spring 2009 and Summer 2009 collections. Including unique pieces with elevated, embellished details and sophisticated, yet whimsical prints the collections give Lilly Lovers™ another reason to celebrate.
